The project “Reconstruction of Primary School at Národní 400 into museum, info
center and library” shall help to boost up tourist trade in Habartov vicinity and also
in the Karlovy Vary Region. It will create perfect conditions for visiting and stay
for both domestic and foreign tourists. The project will broaden spectrum of “free
time industry” activities and selection of tourist products, mainly with respect to
cycling. All of this will be in accordance with approved strategy plan for cycling
traffic in Habartov locality and micro region pod Chlumem and Svatavka, also in
accordance with the development documents of the Karlovy Vary Region and study
of urbanization of Lake Medard. This way we will also help to fulfill one of the goals
of “Program for tourism development in the Karlovy Vary Region.” Expansion of
tourism will essentially mean more employment opportunities and therefore also
better social and economic conditions. We will, of course, maintain the historical
values (the property was built as the first Czech school in the region) and national
identity. Culture will play a significant role in revitalization of our town which has
been severely influenced by the withdrawal of heavy industry and its future orien-
tation at tourist trade.
